Still been tuned evidently up until the first day of NAMM, where it will officially preview, Serato Video has today been announced. Formerly known under the name, Video-SL, this DJ delight was an add on plug-in for Serato Scratch Live originally. Up until now, the control surfaces that power the awesome Serato Itch software have been unable to address this desirable video feature. In a few days time then, we’ll see how the world of video is going to enter the live workflow of Serato loyal users, unwilling perhaps shift camps and move to Virtual DJ perhaps to get such pleasures.
Compatible then with Itch and Serato Scratch Live (not Serato Intro though however), this new version plug-in can be manipulated by turntables, CD players and controllers and has an impressive list of features:
- Add video clips to your Scratch Live or ITCH performance.
- View loaded clips and output from your computer.
- Manipulate playback with Serato control records, CDs or with your ITCH controller of choice.
- Use built in transitions and effects including text and image effects.
- Enrich your set with audio responsive effects, including bass zoom and splits, that are controlled by analyzing the music signal.
- Preview and manage video files in both the ITCH and Scratch Live offline players.
- Use Video Instant Doubles to play the same video and effects on a second deck.
- Store effects within each video file for instant recall.
- Setup different output configurations (Output Only, L/R prefader or all 3 outputs) for greater flexibility when video mixing externally.
- Utilize 3rd party controllers with Serato Video’s MIDI control in Scratch Live.
With the world of video opening up now for more DJ users than ever before, the question is, what will they do with it? Super-fast Video-Mash-Ups perhaps, new non-stop video channels featuring streamed, mixed content via the internet maybe or just a step-up in the audio-visual experience at your local nightclub? Whatever the outcome, it’s more creative tools into the DJ’s armory for sure, and that’s gotta be a good thing, right? More details here by the way.
