Simon McBride
By MNJ
Simon McBride will be appearing at DV East London on April 12th as part of the Evening with Paul Reed Smith and Friends.
Belfast born virtuoso guitarist Simon McBride is often compared to fellow Irishmen Rory Gallagher and Gary Moore, although he sounds like neither in particular, probably owing more to Jimi Hendrix than any other guitarist as an influence on his phrasing and tone. Simon first started teaching himself guitar at the age of 10 and entered and won Guitarist Magazine’s Young Guitarist of the Year competition when he was 15. He was immediately recruited by Sweet Savage – a heavy rock outfit that also included Vivian Campbell from Def Leppard – which recorded two albums and regularly played major festivals.
Since the late nineties he has been touring the world and playing with a wide range of other artists including Grammy nominated soul man Andrew Strong from the Commitments, TM Stevens, Charlie Morgan, Zorro, Hugh Burns, Slash and Steve Lukather. He has also demonstrated for Marshall amplifiers and Paul Reed Smith Guitars and is currently endorsed by PRS and Hughes & Kettner amplifiers. He is at present writing, recording an album of mostly original songs and will be undertaking a UK tour in May.
