Korg microKEY

microkeyThe studio and live performance keyboard market welcomes a new challenger today in the form of the Korg microKEY, a USB-powered, super-slim keyboard packing 37 velocity-sensitive keys and dual USB ports for expansion with nanoPAD, nanoKONTROL or any other USB devices already in your rig.

Lightweight and sporting an “easy-to play Natural Touch keyboard” (used on the microKORG XL), users can also get to grips with separate pitch bend and modulation wheels, and octave shifting and key transposing are one-touch accessible. Playing up and down a full four octaves is now a doddle, then, and when you want to play in G instead of C, it’s a two-second job.

Editing software bundled with the microKEY allows the user to set velocity curves, fix velocity at a specific value and change the spectrum of the modulation wheel – vital for those looking to nail every take and impress under live pressures.

On top of that, numerous extra production software is bundled in too for good measure. There’s the M1 Le, one of the workstation synths in the Korg Legacy collection, and Toontrack’s formidable EzDrummer Litem allowing you to swiftly create a rhythm section for your arrangements. Lounge Lizard Session provides electric piano sounds via a particularly impressive sound module, and the entire thing can be tracked with help from an included Ableton Live Series discount coupon should you need it.

As a studio companion, then, the Korg microKEY is looking pretty darn great. Check back soon for more!

About Rob Sandall

Rob Sandall has written 502 post in this blog.

Having spent his life changing strings in guitar shops, writing and editing news and reviews of the latest music gear and gigging in admittedly-short-lived bands, Rob's particular passions lie with all things six-string and the bodger's world of home production. While he is perhaps not hugely rock and roll, his efforts as a biographer of those who are allow him to at least live a little vicariously through them, which is almost as good. Feel free to drop him a line for help, advice, or just to chat, but be warned: he does go on a bit.
