Dynaudio Acoustics BM5A MkII released at Musikmesse 2010

The Dynaudio Acoustics BM 5A MkII studio monitor is due to be launched at Musikmesse 2010, with the manufacturer referring to the new loudspeaker as “an industry standard reborn”. According to Dynaudio the monitor is “back, it’s louder, more controlled and better than ever”.
The new monitor is based on the original BM5A, which rapidly became something of a legend within the closed world of monitoring. Dynaudio is expecting the MkII to achieve a similar status, having reportedly built on the original design and expanded it with new technology and improved features. In an official press release to the industry, the company describes the process of redesigning the monitor as taking “nearfield monitoring to new levels of performance”. That’s no small boast, but it is backed up by the specification that follows, including handmade aluminium drivers, an extended excursion in the 7″ woofer, and a “high-resolution soft dome tweeter that delivers an unparalleled response”. An HF waveguide is also incorporated in the design to minimise acoustical reflections and deliver a more accurate sweet spot. The monitor has a frequency response of 48Hz to 21kHz.
Also included is a two-channel 90W (50W RMS) transient power amplifier that has been custom designed for the BM5A MkII, delivering maximum 117dB SPL. Three integrated analogue room filters complete the redesign, allowing users to adjust and compensate the acoustical monitor placement at both low, mid and high frequencies depending upon the monitor’s placement in a room.
With the final declaration that it has “taken an established industry standard and made it louder, clearer and more accurate than ever”, Dynaudio is now preparing to debut the BM5A MKII monitor at Musikmesse. Expect a scrum of eager studiophiles in the Frankfurt halls, all vying to hear it first. Here at DV247 Blog, however, we can do more than that – expect to read the first UK review of the new monitor right here in the coming weeks.
In the meantime, however, here’s a YouTube video with Uffe Kjems Hansen discussing the features of the BM5A MkII monitor in detail.
