prs-se-25th-anniversaryThe PRS 25th Anniversary Custom 24 SE is based on the Custom 24 that Paul Reed Smith exhibited at his first trade show in 1985. The orders he took  subsequently launched PRS properly as a brand. It is available in the three original colours from that year; Royal Blue, Scarlet Red and Vintage Yellow. It’s also one of the first SEs to feature birds inlays.

It features a maple top with  quilted maple veneer on a mahogany body, a maple neck with rosewood fingerboard and a wide thin veck profile. PRS designed tremelo and machine heads complete the hardware. The pickups are an SE HFS treble humbucker in the bridge position and an SE Vintage Bass Humbucker in the neck position.

prs-se-zach-myersThe PRS SE Zach Myers model is based on two of Zach’s favourite PRS guitars. With his band Shinedown, Zach Myers has sold more than 6 million albums and has always played PRS. His model features a thick, single-cutaway mahogany body and a maple top with a flamed maple veneer except on the opaque colour models and is available in Royal Blue and Silver Sparkleburst. The guitar has three pickups with two volume and two tone controls

The inlay at the 12th fret is a Fleur-de-Lis and there is a ZM logo on the truss rod cover. The three pickups are all PRS special design humbuckers, one treble and two bass. The model features  an ebony fretboard and a wide fat neck shape.

prs-se-orianthi-modelThe PRS SE Orianthi is based on the Custon 24 but with several unique appointments including a Korina back. It’s available in a Red Sparkle finish with her signature ‘O’ at the 12th fret. It has a wide thin 24 fret maple neck with an ebony board. Pickups are PRS SE HFS Humbucker in the bridge position and a PRS SE Vintage Bass in the neck position. A PRS-designed tremelo in nickel complete the hardware. Orianthis has played PRS since switching from acoustic guitar to electric in 1997 after seeing Carlos Santana in Australia.

The PRS SE range of guitars are suddenly becoming a whole lot more interesting with all the new models launched at NAMM and their position in the mid-price league table of guitars is becoming stronger all the time. These SE artist models will do them no harm at all. To quote Orianthi: “The PRS SE is great for anyone who wants awesome quality, rockin’ good looks and an affordable priced guitar”. We couldn’t possibly disagree.
