The Ibanez JSA10The Ibanez JSA10 Joe Satriani Signature electro-acoustic is set to lead an explosion of new guitars at the NAMM 2010 exhibition while whipping up excitement among fans of the shredding icon around the world.

The electro-acoustic has become an internet talking point in recent months prior to the confirmation of its release in California, though as yet little information has been revealed on what guitarists can expect.

DV247 can now reveal details on how the JSA10 is looking to exceed expectations. Finished in black, the six string boasts a Fishman Ellipse VT preamp plus a solid Englemann Spruce top, solid Rosewood back and sides, a Mahogany neck and an Ebony fretboard. Abalone inlays and binding have also been included alongside chrome Grover tuners. The guitar will be joined by the less expensive JSA5, also in lacquered black, which trades its big brother’s preamp for a Fishman Presys plus Fishman Sonicore pickups.

Nor is the manufacturer stopping at electro-acoustic models – Satriani now has two new Ibanez signature electric guitars to his name. The first is the JS1000 in Black Pearl (having previously been released in Burnt Transparent Blue), featuring a JS Prestige neck, a Basswood body, a Maple neck, a Rosewood fingerboard and Abalone dot inlays. On the neck is a DiMarzio PAF-PRO pickup coupled with a DiMarzio FRED on the bridge, while the guitar’s hardware is black chrome.

In contrast, the 24-fret JS2400 Joe Satriani Signature is a striking white model that boasts a DiMarzio Pro Track mini-humbucker in the neck position alongside a DiMarzio Mo’ Joe at the bridge. A one-piece Maple neck, basswood body and chrome hardware complete the spec.

The Ibanez JEM505 Steve Vai signature guitarRefusing to let Satriani hog all of the attention however is Steve Vai, who is also presenting a new Ibanez signature electric in California. The JEM505 comes in either black or white and is designed to grab an audience’s attention. Again featuring a Basswood body, the six string has a Maple/Walnut neck, Cosmo Black hardware, an Edge III tremolo and V7, S1 and V8 pickups.

Finally, the MTM2 in white is making its debut, offering Slipknot’s Mick Thomsun a new model aimed at the mid-market. The guitar’s body is Mahogany while its neck is a Wizard II in Maple/Walnut with a rosewood fingerboard (boasting 24 jumbo frets). Also included are Seymour Duncan HB-105MT pickups and an Edge III tremolo.

While these signature models are sure to attract a great deal of attention at the NAMM show, however, they are about to be joined by a plethora of new acoustic, electric and bass instruments. Read part two of this article to find out more.

About Barney Jameson

Barney Jameson has written 165 post in this blog.

A contributor, editor and in some cases creator of more music and pro audio magazines than he cares to remember, Barney Jameson is a veteran of writing about gear, and a pretty keen singer songwriter to boot.

Having started his musical education reading old copies of the Melody Maker while riding the tube to University in the mid-nineties, Barney once sang in a band called Sugarstone, troubling record company chequebooks not quite enough to make it a career option. Instead, he achieved his goal of starting a music magazine of his own when he founded Playmusic in the early noughties. Later on, having exploited VIP access to as many festivals as possible, he wrote about the pro audio industry throughout Europe and the Middle East, travelling to far-flung destinations such as Dubai, Doha and Muscat (nice mountains).

As the latest addition to the DV247 team, Barney has big plans. But when he’s not plotting online domination of the musical instrument world, he keeps himself busy writing songs on a battered old acoustic guitar and playing them to audiences in his home town.
