Calvin Harris’ Humanthesizer

calvin_harris_humanthesizerElectro-pop sensation Calvin Harris has shown he’s not only on the ball with cutting edge music making possibilities, he’s also a dab hand at finding a great marketing opportunity. To promote his new single ‘Ready For The Weekend’, Calvin hooked up with a team called Bare Conductive, coating hands ‘n feet of himself and an array of bikini-clad models in a special ‘conductive’ skin safe paint. Checking out the video (below), this in turn appears to trigger some form of sample playback/synth system loaded with the individual parts of his new track.

It’s straight forward ‘fun meets performance art’ as, the whole lot of them (led and orchestrated by Calvin) clap, jump and shuffle around to sequence the beats and music. The lead vocalist however sticks with that old ‘no paint, just a microphone‘ standard!

So, an interesting combination of MIDI protocols and swimwear, which the Scottish artist calls a ‘Humanthesizer’… not sure how DV will get around to stocking this item though :-)
