MOTU 8 Pre – Input flexibility

motu 8 preConsidering the two factors of my upcoming need to record more than 4 artists simultaneously, and a ‘brand bond’ I’ve had for numerous years, the MOTU 8 Pre seems to be calling my name right now. Currently recommended by the team behind the increasingly popular Synergy computer range, this 8 mic/line input firewire rack has plenty to offer.

The eight mic pre’s/inst. inputs feature individual front panel trim controls and a clever dual function push button knob giving separate control over headphone and main output volumes – both handy for quick set up and adjust. A clear and helpful LED display gives a constant readout and re-affirms visually what’s going on input level-wise, and indicates current ‘mode’ and clocking info.

The rear panel handles the two firewire inputs (always handy having a 2nd one!), a useful midi in & out, the main left/right monitor outs  and of course the flexible optical routing section adding the luxury of ADAT lightpipe, 8 channel digital I/O. Pristine 24 bit/96kHz audio is controlled by the bundled MOTU ‘cuemix’ software, and as a bonus, the 8 Pre adheres to ‘plug & play’ protocols meaning no computer restart should you power it down and back up again.
