Here’s a cheeky one for you- The Tanglewood RVB-2 Classic ’60s British Beatles Style Violin Bass.

Based on Hofner’s 500/1 ‘Beatle Bass’, The RVB-2 recreates a vintage semi-hollow tone perfect for ’60s style pop/ rock, blues and jazz, without breaking the bank!

I sometimes find replica basses a bit hit or miss, and to be fair, I can be a bit of a snob when it comes to brand names. With the RVB2 I have overlooked what logo is stamped on the headstock and see a great looking, great playing, yet very affordable bass guitar.

Aesthetically, Tanglewood have succeeded in recreating the vintage look, the RVB2 has the same vintage features as the Hofner, including Rosewood fingerboard with pearloid dot inlays, Maple neck, floating wooden bridge and pearloid pick guard. Of course, the pickups aren’t the Hofner stamped ‘Staple’ humbucking pickups, but the two toaster appearance mini-humbucker pickups work just as well in achieving that Beatles un-EQ’d classic pop sound.

So to all you Paul McCartney fans and Beatles Tribute bands, why pay more?…

About David Bell

David Bell has written 23 post in this blog.

It’s all about the Bass for me! I was given my first Bass on my 12th Birthday, since then I’ve spent every available penny on basses of all varieties, 4 string, 5 string, upright, you name it!…

I play a range of different styles of music, from Pop/ Rock to 50’s; I’ve even appeared on the main stage at the Country Musik Messe in Nürnberg, Germany. When I’m not playing live I spend a lot of time writing and recording in the studio.

I’ve worked in the Guitar industry since 2005, running one of London’s most foremost Bass guitar specialists. I’m currently enjoying working in DV’s Web/ Graphic Design team. I’m most exited to be able to share my interest, experience and knowledge about Bass gear here on the DV blog.
