Acoustic Treatment makes sense

This is probably the less glamorous piece of kit in a studio but it is also the most important with good monitors. However it is often put way down on the priority list if not completely forgotten. I was asked to help set up a studio. The equipment they bought was of high standard (Focusrite ISA 428, Avalon, PMC DB1S-A) but they spent all their money on the equipment and nothing on acoustic treatment. Unfortunately for them the room was very reverberant and it was clear for me that they would need to invest in acoustic treatment if they wanted to be able to mix with good results.
Fortunately, there is now an array of acoustic treatment solutions to suit everybody’s needs by the likes of Universal Acoustics, Vicoustic, Ghost and SE Electronics. All these solutions are very practical and modular so you can buy just a few items or complete solutions depending on the budget and the needs of the room. And trust me it does make a big difference. I mix on Quested VS3208s which are amazing speakers but until I had the room acoustically treated I really found it hard to get a good result.
So, if you want to get said good results with your productions, you should leave some money aside for some acoustic treatment. The results will be your reward! And there’s some great, informative discussion in our Acoustic Treatment forum to check out ands see what’s best for your situation.

Let’s not forget GIK Acoustics! Particularly now they can distribute from inside the UK with their UK shop. My old uni acoustics lecturer constantly raved on about them, and from the prices they look like fairly good value too.
