SE Electronics RNR1 – Neve Designed Perfection

SE RNR1 Ribbon MicrophoneThere are many products that really fascinate me but this one in particular. I have always loved ribbon microphones and I was lucky enough to have used some Royer microphones in some projects before. I love their warmth and “personality”. When I heard Rupert Neve was designing a microphone and teamed up with SE Electronics to do so, my curiosity reached a level rarely attained before.

This was last year and after waiting impatiently for months on I’ve finally come across one. First of all I have to say I love the design! It’s for me one of the most beautiful microphones. Obviously a microphone is nothing if it doesn’t sound any good and what really interests me is the combination of the ribbon sound with the extended HF response: the warmth of the ribbon with the clarity of condenser microphones.  It also handles over 135dB SPL which means they can handle pretty loud sources. This is one product I’m really looking forward to playing with!

About Paul Lavigne

Paul Lavigne has written 17 post in this blog.

I have been involved in live and studio sound engineering since 2004. During this time I absorbed myself in the recording, production, mixing and mastering of projects from Punk to Hip Hop, from Metal to classical and electronic music.  I even ran a record company of experimental music for a few years.

The reason I do all this? It’s because I love sound and the tools to create these sounds whether it is a plug in or a piece of outboard or a microphone, whatever the tools to get the sound I’m after.  I love to share this passion for sound and hopefully you will too reading these blogs.
